Polarnode Plans Large-Scale Data Center Project in Pori
Finnish data center project development company Polarnode is preparing a large-scale data center project in Pori. Polarnode and the City of Pori have agreed to develop a data center in the Honkaluoto area owned by the City of Pori.

Under the cooperation agreement ratified on Monday, June 9, the City of Pori will reserve the area for Polarnode for project development. The planned size of the data center project is over 100 MW and it will be located on a 26-hectare industrial plot. The project complex under preparation represents an over billion euro investment when realized.
The project is currently in the planning phase, during which Polarnode is preparing the project complex for a later investment decision. Polarnode aims to complete the project in early 2026. The end user for the project will be selected through a structured customer selection process.
“The strengths of the Pori project are the already legally binding plan and a strong electricity grid, which make it an ideal location for the needs of large data centers. In addition, the area’s strategic location in terms of data transmission guarantees excellent operating conditions for both national and international operations,” comments Mika Suomi, Business Director of Polarnode Oy.
The project will have significant employment impacts on the Pori region’s business community during the various stages of the construction and operation of the data center. During the construction phase, which may last for more than five years, hundreds of local construction professionals will be employed. Once the data center is completed, permanent jobs will be created in tasks such as maintenance, supervision, security and operational management. In addition to direct jobs, the project will increase tax revenue, increase demand for accommodation and restaurant services in the area, and offer new opportunities for education and research, for example in the fields of data center technology and energy technology.
“Honkaluoto and the Pori airport area are one of our city’s strategic development targets, and we believe that the area offers good development opportunities for an operator like Polarnode. The data center project is part of our city’s comprehensive energy system development. The projects combine modern information work and new energy solutions in a unique way,” says Lauri Inna, Mayor of Pori.
“The expertise of Finnish companies, both locally and more broadly, provides an excellent foundation for growing into international top experts in the data center industry. The data center industry can act as a driver of new industrial development in Pori and strengthen the city’s position as a modern, technology-intensive and sustainable business area,” comments Mikko Toivanen, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Polarnode Oy.
The Pori project is one of the data center projects currently under development by the Finnish company Polarnode in Finland. The company has previously announced data center projects in the Lappeenranta and Nokia cities. The company’s goal is to grow Finland into a hub for successful and sustainable data center business in Europe and to permanently embed the value and benefits created by the industry into the domestic business environment.
Polarnode is a 100% Finnish-owned company, whose founders Mikko Toivanen and Kalle Pykälä have previously been involved in preparing, financing and building over a billion euros in investments in wind and solar power as founders of the renewable energy company Ilmatar.
