Tourism Revenue in Pori Grew in 2024 – Against the National Trend
While most Finnish regions saw tourism revenue fall in 2024, Pori recorded growth – direct income rose to €103 million.

Pori participated for the second time in the tourism income and employment survey conducted by Visitory Oy, a research company specialized in tourism studies. This year, the survey covered nearly 50 tourism regions across Finland. In 2024, the total economic impact of tourism in Pori amounted to €142 million, with direct tourism revenue reaching €103 million. “Despite the general economic uncertainty, which has affected especially domestic travel spending, Pori’s development can be considered positive,” says Maria Rasmussen, Tourism Specialist at the City of Pori.
In the nearly 50 regions covered by the study, the share of tourism turnover in all industries averaged 1.5 percent, while the share of tourism employment was 2.6 percent of total person-years. In Pori, tourism accounted for 1.71 percent of turnover across all industries and 2.46 percent of all person-years. “In Pori, the trend was similar. Domestic registered overnight stays increased by 1 percent in 2024, while international registered overnight stays grew by 30 percent. Unregistered overnight stays in Pori increased by 37 percent overall,” Rasmussen reports.

Background
Visitory’s tourism revenue figures describe the spending of visitors in a given region, and the direct and indirect income and employment effects it generates. The money spent by visitors in an area constitutes the direct impact of tourism. When businesses benefiting from tourism purchase goods and services from other local companies, indirect impacts are created.
