Yyteri is evolving – a new dune restaurant complex for summer 2023
The building of the Yyteri Seafood Restaurant has been demolished and a new restaurant complex consisting of containers will be built on the site next summer; Yyteri Dune Restaurants. The area will include a total of four retail spaces, which will be rented by Yyterin Meriravintola Oy to various operators. Agreements for the summer season have already been signed with three companies – Jungle Juice Bar, which serves fresh smoothies, Iis, which also runs a restaurant business on Vallisaari, and Päng Grill, which creates Thai delicacies. Yyteri’s Dune Restaurant District will open on 15 June.
The longer-term objective is to seek a more permanent building investment on the site of the former seafood restaurant, in line with the Yyteri Square master plan.
– Great to bring more choice and new entrepreneurs to Yyteri! The city will provide the basics such as a terrace, furniture and toilets, but the most delicious offerings will be left to the ingenuity of the entrepreneurs. The view from the sandy beach terrace is one of the best in Yyteri, so that’s one thing that will make the place even more popular, says Tove Vesterbacka, responsible for the development of Yyter.
The construction of a new information building on Yyteri Square is also due to start in the coming months. The aim is for the new information building to open during the summer season 2024.
– This will be one of the most significant developments in the area, both visually and functionally. The building will be used all year round and will serve as a hub for services in the area. As the name suggests, the building will offer tourist information, information about the unique nature of Yyteri, and the opportunity to grab a snack or a sunscreen. Or you can just hang out in the shade and fill up your water bottle from the tap outside the building, says Vesterbacka.
Blue Flag certificate for the second time
Last year, Yyteri became the first beach resort in Finland to receive the international Blue Flag sustainability certificate. The certificate is reapplied for annually and the beach is audited. The international Blue Flag jury has awarded Yyteri the Blue Flag label for the 2023 season.
To further improve safety, the beach has been equipped with LifeBoards, which work better than life rings on shallow beaches like Yyteri. Yyteri is the first destination in Finland to introduce LifeBoards on such a large scale. There are more than 200 LifeBoards on Danish beaches and no theft or misuse has been recorded.
Developing nature tourism
Nature tourism in the Yyteri region has been made easier and clearer with the launch of the Outdooractive global route app. The routes can be found and downloaded via visitpori.fi and visityyteri.fi. In addition to Finnish, the route descriptions are in English and Swedish will be added to the language selection in the near future.
Direct bus service from the city centre via Yyteri to Reposaari throughout the summer holiday season
The accessibility of Yyteri and maritime Pori will be further improved. In the coming summer, in addition to the normal local bus services, there will be a direct and therefore faster bus service to Yyteri and Reposaari. The bus will run three round trips per day throughout the school summer holiday period. Detailed timetables are available on visityyteri.fi.
A boat service between Kallo and Reposaari will operate from 27 June to 31 July from Wednesday to Sunday. The boat can accommodate 12 passengers at a time and is also suitable for people with reduced mobility. The service is operated by VV-Outdoors Ltd.
