NCC and ASP DC Pori break ground on a data center project in Finland

NCC and ASP DC have signed an agreement for preparatory work on a data center project at the Pori Copper Industrial Park in western Finland.

The assignment follows an extended project development phase in which NCC collaborated with the various owners of the project. This is a partnership that will continue going forward. The contract that NCC has now signed covers earthwork and foundation engineering ahead of the planned construction, including roads for construction traffic as well as pile driving and the removal of excavation masses.

“NCC has been involved in developing this project for a long time and has worked closely with all parties involved. This agreement marks an important step toward realizing the data center in the Pori Copper Industrial Park, and we look forward to starting the preparatory work,” says Catarina Molén-Runnäs, Head of NCC Building Nordics.

“For ASP DC, this project represents a significant milestone, as it marks our first investment in Finland and an important step in developing next-generation AI infrastructure. Our ambition is to establish a long-term presence in Pori, create jobs, and contribute to the region’s economic development in close cooperation with local businesses and communities. The project integrates data center operations with energy generation and grid-balancing capabilities, helping to support the stability of Finland’s electricity system and the country’s energy transition. We are delighted to take this important step together with NCC and our local partners,” says Ole Fredrik Bergseth, CEO of ASP DC.

“For the City of Pori, ASP’s data center project represents a highly significant industrial investment that will further strengthen Pori’s position as an attractive location for the emerging data economy. The Copper Industrial Park area provides an established industrial environment for the project, along with opportunities to utilize waste heat generated by the data center as part of the city’s energy system. It is particularly important to us that an investment of this scale and long-term significance also delivers tangible benefits to Pori in the form of jobs, business opportunities for local companies, and increased economic vitality,” says Lauri Kilkku from the City of Pori.

Work begins in autumn 2026 and is expected to be completed in spring 2027. The construction of the data center facility itself will be handled under a separate process.
